Shirley Jean Wright
Shirley Jean Wright passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, August 11, 2010 after a lengthy illness.
Shirley was born May 25, 1935, the daughter of the late Ellis and Theresa Light. She was a 1954 graduate of Lynn View High School. She retired from JC Penney Catalog Dept. where she supervised the Catalog, Layaway and Credit Departments. Shirley began her career at The Diana Shop and later Nettie Lee Shop in downtown Kingsport; she also worked as a Kindergarten Aide for Indian Springs Elementary School and volunteered in the school clinic for The American Red Cross.
Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family. She loved road trips, was an awesome cook and loved to watch birds. She always had a big smile on her face for her family and friends.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Edmond Light, James David Light and her husband, Bill W. Wright.
She is survived by her daughter; Teri Wright, son; Bill Wright and wife, Lydia all of Kingsport. Grandchildren; Jessica Carr and husband Brett, Blountville. Rachel Casey, Kingsport; Wesley Craft, Johnson City; Jessie Craft and wife Silvia, Greensboro, NC; Amanda Moody and husband Paul, Johnson City. Great-grandchildren; Clint Carr, Dakota Cleek and soon to be, Corban Carr. Sister-in-law; Judy Light, Missouri. Several nieces and nephews. Surrogate grandchildren; Courtney and Justin Carnine and Beckett Ford.
The family wishes to thank her caregivers, Deena Khalaf, her niece and Pat and Rachael Baver and Bev Caulkins as well as the Amedisys Hospice team. Thank you Lesa and Misty. They also wish to recognize the staff of Indian Path Medical Center for the skilled and compassionate care they provided for her during her many stays with them.
The family will receive friends Sunday, August 15, 2010 from 2 – 3 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home. Services will follow in the Chapel at 3:00 PM with Cliff Ramey officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are Brett Carr, Dale Roberts, Justin Carnine, Chris Light, Eddie Light, Mark Whittimore, Les Wright, Harold Wright, Preston Wright and Michael Vaughn.
