February 15, 1965 – April 12, 2019
Randall “Randy” Lee Compton, age 54, of Bristol, TN, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, April 12, 2019. Randy had great pride in his hard work ethics, which was appropriately displayed in his long term 35 – year commitment to his employer, Appalachian Plastics Inc. of Glade Spring VA. He was a tech savvy, solution – oriented, engineer type who could create effective solutions for all challenges. His precise measurements were crucial in development of quality products distributed internationally.
Randy was preceded in death by his loving parents, Robert and Marlene Compton, Aunt Betty, and Uncle Larry.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Janice “Jan” Compton, sisters Michelle Compton Reynolds, Rhonda Goodman (Robbie), and Melissia Tweed (Andy). Although Randy was not a biological father, he was a strong father – figure to his many nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Jeremy, Andrew, Meghan, Kaity, Alycia “Aly”, Michael, Robert, Jordan and many great – nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his special friend and cousin, Scott, who shared his fondness of hiking, as well as many other cousins and relatives whom he loved dearly.
Randy will be greatly missed by family, friends, and co-workers with whom he had nurtured lifelong relationships through his caring nature, quick wit, and loyalty. He enjoyed everything from covered dish dinners and holiday celebrations with his church family at Mt. Vernon Independent Methodist to target shooting and riding jet skis in the region. Randy was an avid racing fan including NASCAR (particularly Kyle Bush), supercross, and formula one. Playing the lottery was one of his past times along with listening and playing his favorite music, golf, and biking. Although he had a wide array of hobbies, his recent passion was hiking the beautiful trails in the Great Smoky Mountains. His hiking “family” sparked special memories which brought a big smile to his face.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, from 5:00 to 8:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 8:00pm with Rev. Richard Fleming and Rev. Craig Needham officiating.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at 10:00am at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Mausoleum.
