Nina “Nancy” Kate Smith McClain, 90, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Preston Place in Kingsport. Born on April 15, 1925 in Sullivan County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Hugh Smith and Georgia Keener Mowdy Smith. Mrs. McClain worked for Eastman in the yarn plant during World War II and as a laundry attendant at Rowe’s Laundry in the 1970’s. She was the oldest of nine children and loved NASCAR, the Tennessee Titans, and Elvis. She also was an avid reader. In addition to her parents, Charlie Hugh and Georgia Keener Mowdy Smith, she was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Hugh McClain; sister, Shelby Jean Smith; and brothers, Bobby June Smith, James Avery Smith and Carl Smith. She is survived by her children, Tony Lee McClain and his wife, Marilyn; Patsy Millard and her husband, Alan; Terry McClain and his wife, Pat; and Rick McClain and his wife, Anita; grandchildren, Matthew Scott McClain, Terry Brant McClain, and Anthony Brent McClain; step-granddaughter, Beth Snapp; great-grandchildren, Owen Thomas McClain, Sean Patrick McClain, Andrew Scott McClain and Tayler Rae McClain; sister, Stella Ruth Fauver; and brothers, Willard Smith, Billy Jack Smith and Johnny Wayne Smith. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, June 28, 2015 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services will follow at 5:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Tom Edwards officiating. The eulogy will be given by Mrs. McClain’s son, Terry. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 29, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. in the Garden of Everlasting Life II of East Lawn Memorial Park. Flowers are appreciated.
