Sadly, I am just now hearing about Mike's passing. I knew Mike for many years when we worked together in radio. I lost contact with Mike and his wife Angela after leaving the area in the early 90's, but over the years, I would periodically ask friends about Mike and Angela. When I think of Mike I think not only of a very talented individual, but of a person who was a decent and kind man. I have always believed the measure of a man or woman is his or her character. Mike, my friend, what a high bar you set for all of us, because you truly were a person of so much character! What a blessing to have known you! Angela I pray your family and you have peace that surpasses all understanding. 

Mike was a precious first grader in my second year at Andrew Johnson.  Our birthdays were one day apart, December 21 and 22.  His hand writing was a struggle for him during the first semester.  When we came back from Christmas Vacation he was a year older and his hand writing was better than mine.  We called him our Birthday Miracle Writer.  We had a special bond because of his birthday.  Years later I heard that wonderful voice on radio.  When I made a call to the station, I learned that I was my miracle boy! So sorry for your loss.  He brought joy to many people.  He will be missed.

Mike Padgett was one of THE most talented voices in our area, period. He was routinely requested for voice work by many clients who wanted him to be their "voice". He was so good at what he did. Good not only on the air, but as a sales manager and account executive as well. He hired me in 1993 to come to work for him at Holston Valley Broadcasting, even after I had to turn him down a year before for what was supposed to be a sales manager's job that did not manifest. I will forever be grateful to him for giving me that opportunity. My condolences to his family and loved ones. Praying for strength, courage, and peace for them all.

So many people have been touched by Mike Padgett. There really aren't enough words to describe him but for me, Mike was the epitome of what a friend should be and that he was to everyone he met. Kind with his words and always a smile on his face he was truly one of a kind. My deepest condolences are to Angela, his love, as well as his children of which he was so proud of! You all are in my thoughts and prayers. I am so blessed to have known this very special man.

Mike, I miss you my friend,the world seems different. You have made a huge impact on all of us who were blessed enough to have known you. I hold your family close in prayer. Until we meet again R.I.P.

Mike was a great person to know and work with. I will miss hearing his footsteps coming down the hall to check his mailbox when he came by the Radio Station. I will miss his smile and his  wave as he would pass by my office.  He will be missed by everyone that knows him. May GOD give Mike's family and friends peace, comfort, strength and joy in the memories of Mike as needed, when needed and where ever it is needed.  Mike had a big smile while he was here with all of us but I can only imagine the smile that He has on his face as he walks with our LORD & SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST, OUR HEAVENLY FATHER and his loved ones that are in heaven with him now. In GOD's time Mike's family and friends will get to see Mike again. I am sure that he will be waiting with a big Smile and open arms when they get to go home too!

Mike was an inspiration.  Not only in broadcasting but in life!  Sympathy for his family and he will be most sincerely missed.

Mike was an amazing and talented gentleman. He will be sorely missed by all. May God comfort his family as they walk this grief-filled path. God Bless Each One Of You!

It deeply saddens and breaks my heart to learn that one of the greatest friends I ever had passed away, Mike Padgett. He was the "original voice of the Tri-Cities" and Loved by many people. Mike was a friend to everyone he ever met, a family man in the truest sense and a lifetime runner. When I was a teenager, he was with me on my first on-air radio show as a DJ and made life FUN!  We laughed so much and never viewed radio as work. Mike still produced my radio show for SuperTalk up until he became ill a few months ago. Mike would tell me that every show was the best one!  He was very inspiring and one of the brightest moments of the day for Mom and me every time he walked into our office.
It is gonna take quite some time for this to sink in mentally. Prayers go out to his entire family and all of his friends. He will always be missed and not ever forgotten!

Saddens my heart to see another great of Kingsport history pass. Mike was a great guy with a golden voice, much like his coworker and friend J. J. Scott of WKPT. These guys made radio a true joy to listen to in the 70s and 80s when the djs could have more say in playing your favorites.

What a great fellow Mike was. We met in college, but I already knew the voice the first time I heard him speak up in class. I had told friends after hearing him on-air (while he was in high school, but I didn't know that at the time) that Mike was good enough to work anywhere he wanted. And, apparently he did. Exactly where he wanted. Mike will be missed. Best wishes to Angela and the family.

Rarely does one meet a man of Mike's stature. As a member of our family, we were continually aware of his quiet and gentle ways; yet he also had the strength of a lion and the passion and wisdom to care for his family. Mike's cherished wife Angie and his children were his heartbeat and we always marveled at the tight bond that united them. We were honored and blessed to know Mike. I am sorry for the loss of a great guy. I am also sorry that I can not be at the service but right now I am in rehab from surgery. I will  be praying for the whole family.

I am heart broken to hear of Mike's passing. He made my mornings as a teen great because he knew my voice & what I was calling to request. He was a great man and will be missed. Sending prayers.

We were so blessed to work with Mike at WXBQ.  He was very dedicated, and achieved every goal that he set.  His soft spoken demeanor and sweet smile will always be remembered.  He is now healed..Perfect and Whole.  My thoughts and Prayers are with his loving Family.

I am heartbroken over Mike's passing. I will miss our daily conversations, and work will not be the same without him. He was sweet and kind and funny and talented; with a great eye for photography. His love for his family was immense. I pray God comforts your hearts and fills the void Mike leaves behind.

I had the privilege of working with Mike for more than 20 years.  He was always a pleasure to be around.  Many times over the years when dealing with radio on-air talent I have used Mike as an example of professionalism.  No matter what life threw at him, he left it at the control room door and gave his listening audience everything he had. Although we drifted apart after I moved away I feel a great loss as if we were meeting to discuss the Mike and Jody Morning Show only yesterday.

To the family, please accept my condolences. I had the pleasure of working around Mike at Holston Valley Broadcasting Corporation for over a decade. He was always so kind, genuine and grounded guy. You couldn't have asked for a nicer person or a better human being. Mike will be sorely missed by all of his friends and family as well as his recent and past colleagues. 

My first real job was working with Mike at WKPT.  I just happened to be looking up his name and saw this awful news.  Mike and I always had a great time just talking -- sometimes on the air, and sometimes just as friends.  He was truly and consistently one of the sweetest and nicest guys I ever had the chance to know.  So sorry for all our loss.

The world has lost a good guy! Mike was a true friend to me and my mentor when I started at Holston Valley Broadcasting in 1988. I remember listening to him when I was a teenager on WKPT-AM when it was Top 40 and thinking, I want to sound upbeat and as energetic as that guy! I never thought I would have to privilege of working with him for over 25 years. Mike will be greatly missed but heaven will surely have one of the best DJ's I've ever worked around. So sorry to hear about Mike's passing. He was a great friend to my brother Scott and seemed like another member of the family back in the old days. I still remember him hanging out at our house on Stratford, practicing his radio voice and dreaming of becoming a renowned DJ. He will be truly missed.
