Martin Carlisle Sherwood went to his heavenly home surrounded by his family on March 25, 2010. He was born October 7, 1937 in Robinson, Illinois. He served in the United States Air Force and was employed by Food City in Blountville.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Nellie Sherwood and a sister Ellen Joplin.
He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Thressie Case Sherwood, three sons, Mark (Leslie), Kevin (Alicia), James, and one daughter, Quinna (Chris) Slater. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, Katie (Derek) McGhee, Adam, Abby, Evan, Nick, Creston, Maggie, Jordan, Eli, Luke, Ryan and Ellie and one great granddaughter, Lily Grace.
An uncommonly noble man, Martin was of the Baptist faith and was a servant to all. Ever gentle, humble and giving, he was loved by all who knew him. A quiet leader, he leaves behind a legacy of love, family, and generosity.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 28, 2010 at East Lawn Funeral Home from 2-4pm. Funeral services will follow at 4pm with Pastors J.W. Depew, Danny Rachel, and Reggie Weems officiating. Graveside services will be Monday, March 29, 2010 at 11am at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Adam Sherwood, Evan Slater, Nick Sherwood, Creston Sherwood, Derek McGhee, and Drew McDonald. Honorary pallbearers are Charles and Timmy Rachel.
