Marion C. Joplin, age 83 of Nickelsville, Va passed away on Friday, May 6, 2016 at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on July 10, 1932 in West Frankfort, IL. He retired after serving 21 years in the United States Air Force. He was a member of Nickelsville First Baptist Church; and also a member of American Legion Post 3/265. Marion enjoyed life to the fullest doing lots of traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of Hilton Stars and Dixie Promenaders Square Dance Clubs and the Hill Country Campers Club.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ellen Sherwood Joplin; son, Martin Joplin; sister, Joyce Cox; and two brothers, Harold Joplin, and Bill Joplin. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 34 years, Loretta Joplin of Nickelsville, VA; daughter, Susan Roberts of Minneapolis, MN; daughter-in-law, Audrey Joplin of Harlan, KY; two step-sons, Mike Lane (Brenda) of Nickelsville, VA, and Tim Lane of Asheville, NC; sister, Helen Hinman (Richard) of Zephyrhills, FL; brother, Donald Joplin (Joyce) of Christopher, IL; two granddaughters, Whitney Berry (Zach), and Katie Warner (Keith); two great grandchildren, Emery Kate Berry, and Hudson Miles Berry; several loving nieces, nephews; and a host of friends.
The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to all of their friends and family who were there for them during Marion’s illness; and also the host of doctors and nurses for such great care and support. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 9, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will begin at 8:00 pm immediately following the visitation with Pastor Steve Collins. Music will be provided by Nickelsville First Baptist Church Choir. There will be a Military Honor’s Interment service on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm, at East Lawn Memorial Park in the Garden of the Good Shephard with Mike Lane, Tim Lane, Zach Berry, Keith Warner, Jeff Sutton, and Danny Dixon serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hill County Campers Club. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 3/265.
