John D. Lawson

John David Lawson, age 61 entered into rest December 14, 2013 at his residence. John was born in Kingsport and was a graduate of Gate City High School. He retired from Tennessee Eastman Company. John was a member of Moccasin Street Church of Christ of Gate City, VA. He was preceded in death by his father, John M. “Jip” Lawson, Jr.; maternal grandparents, David C. and Myrtle Smith; paternal grandparents, John M. and Ava Jane Lawson, Sr. Survivors include his fiancé, Becky Relyea; mother, Ruby Smith Lawson of Gate City, VA; sisters, Denise Duncan and husband Delmar of Gate City, Kendra Taylor and husband Bo of Gate City, Vodessa Greene of Gate City; John was known as Papa by Rosa’ Nevares of Cleveland, VA, Hannah Kay Herrera of Lebanon, VA; nephews, Corp. Johnathan Greene and wife Emily of Camp Lejeune, NC, Jacob A. Taylor of Gate City; special friends, Willie Hughes, Lafette Robinette and Billy Jackson; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday, Dec. 21st from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home, and anytime at his Mom’s residence. Private funeral services will be held.
