Janice Joann McKnight, 73, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday (August 31, 2017). Joann was born on October 12, 1943 to the late Wilson Carmen & Mozella Ruth (Sluss) Brickey in Fort Blackmore, VA.
Joann was a graduate of Dungannon High School, VA and was Ms. Scott County in 1962. She married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Ray McKnight, on September 15, 1962 and had two children. She was a regular attendee of Gray Station Baptist Church. Joann had a passion for children, both as a homemaker and as a preschool teacher. Joann was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend; she will be greatly missed.
Left to cherish her memories are her loving husband of 55 years, Bobby Ray McKnight; son, Terry Ray McKnight & fiancé Amy Lee Taylor; daughter, Renee McConnell & husband Rick McConnell; sisters, Shirley King, Gay Hancock & husband Whidden Hancock and Faye Smith & husband Terry Smith; grandchildren, Heath McConnell, Houston McKnight, Hanna McKnight, and Hayden McKnight; great-grandchildren, Hudson McKnight and Annabelle McKnight; her beloved dog, Sarah Jane; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
The family will greet guests and share memories on Monday (September 4, 2017) from 12:00 noon to 2 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Arden Taylor officiating.
Joann will be entombed on Monday (September 4, 2017) at 3 p.m. in Mausoleum III at East Lawn Memorial Park. Serving as pallbearers will be Heath McConnell, Houston McKnight, Tim Whaley, Jonathan Jackson, Carl Goodman, William Race, Barry Rogers, Matt Hall, Aaron Kimberlan, and Jerry Woliver.
