He was a 1957 graduate of South High School in Knoxville, earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee Knoxville in 1961, and a Master of Experimental Statistics from North Carolina State University in 1963.
Jim was a senior statistical associate at Eastman Chemical Company, where he worked for 36 years. He spent two-and-a-half years at Eastman in Cosoleacaque, Mexico, and was a Fellow of the American Society for Quality.
Jim was a nondenominational Christian, and married the love of his life in June 1961. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the outdoors. He was an early adopter of computers, embracing the potential of technology. He enjoyed reading, a good joke and telling stories to grandchildren.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Franklin White and LaVerne Rieben White; a son, Greg White; and his sister, Mary L. White. He is survived by his devoted wife, Beverly White, son Kevin White (Lesley), daughter Bethany White (Ash Aboushall); daughter-in-law Sylvia Massey (Matt Pearson); granddaughters Mandy White Rogers (Alex), Kara Rebecca Robinson (John), Maya Aboushall; grandson Zachary White; great-grandchildren Atley, Alton and Ainsley Rogers; special aunts Mavis White and Mavis Jones; several cousins, and many dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 6, 2023 at East Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, with a graveside service following. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon. Officiants, Jerome Frandle and Jason McInally.
