James Alvin Templeton, 89, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2015, at the James H. Quillen VA Medical Center. Mr. Templeton was born on October 6, 1925 in Scott County, Virginia, the son of the late Abraham Ingle Templeton and Eliza Bonnie Alley Templeton. He was a Lab Technician at Eastman Kodak for 37 years and was a member of Alley’s Chapel Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. During his time of service, he received the following decorations and citations: American Area 1 Star Victory World War II and the European-African medal. In addition to his parents, Mr. Templeton was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Templeton; eight brothers, Walter Thomas, Joseph Earl, Everett Lee, William Elmer, Charles Ray, Robert Cecil, Marvin Carson and Lonnie Bruce Templeton; and five sisters, Vesta Alma Vest, Mattie Victoria Templeton, Jamie Grace Ball, Edna Faye Jenkins and Yvonne Louise Miller. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Tankersley and husband Raymond and Debbie Sutherland and husband Charles, both of Kingsport, TN; two sons, James Phillip Templeton, of Kingsport, TN and Phillip Ross Templeton and wife Megan, of Bristol, VA; six grandchildren, Jason Tankersley and wife January, Travis Tankersley, Lindy Smith and husband Eric, Wynn Sutherland, Shea Sutherland, and Phillip Templeton and wife Megan; eight great grandchildren, Keyton, Presley, and Spencer Tankersley, Taylor Sutherland, Cole and Piper Smith, and Mykenze and Carly Templeton; one sister, Billie Sue Quillen; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside Service for Mr. James Alvin Templeton will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 5:00pm in the Garden of the Bible at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Virginia, with Rev. Bob Cloud and Rev. Stephen Templeton officiating. Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and Gate City Post #265. Pallbearers will be family.
