James Mitchell Rackley age 82, Loving husband, father and grandfather; went on to be with the Lord on March 10th 2024 after an extended illness. He said he was ready to go home and be with Jesus. Mitch was born in Easley, SC. He eventually settled in Kingsport which he considered his home and married his wife Connie of 39 years. He was a devoted husband and father to Tonya and Todd and Grandfather to Summre, Tyler and Grayson.
He retired from J.P. Stevens where he spent his career as a Managing industrial engineer. After retirement he spent many years helping in the community with meals on wheels and helping at his church
In his younger years he enjoyed golfing, biking on the Creeper Trail, watching college football and loved old cars.
He was a loving father and grandfather better known as “Pop”. Pop will be remembered as a brilliant, fun loving, kind Christian family man whose life was defined by his unwavering faith in Christ. He was a faithful member of the Sunnyside Baptist Church.
Pop’s legacy is one of faith, love and service to others. He loved singing in the choir over 30 years. He was a member and supporter of the Gideon International Faithful supporter of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
Mitch is preceded in death by his parents Clifton Rackley and Hazel Nation and two brothers Stanley and Danny Rackley.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie, children Tonya Garland (Spouse) Aaron, Todd Yokley (spouse) Kim. Grandchildren Summre Williams (Spouse) Shaun, Tyler, Yokley (spouse) Holly, Sunnie (Gracie) Pearman (Spouse) Noah, Shayla Crawford (Spouse) Seth.
A committal service for James will be officiated by Dr. Bill Sims and Dr. David Luster on Friday, March 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM at East Lawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd, Kingsport, Tennessee 37664. Hymns will be sung by Martha France, Mel and Karen Colvard. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the Sunnyside Baptist Church Building fund.
