James Leonard Gibson, age 87, of Kingsport, entered into Heaven on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at the Holston Valley Medical Center. Mr. Gibson was a native of Wood, VA, and the son of the late James Mace and Amanda Emily Lark Gibson. He moved to the Kingsport area in 1938. Mr. Gibson retired from Pet Dairy after 27 years of service and was an ordained Baptist and Methodist minister. He was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. Mr. Gibson enjoyed wood working, and loved his birds and chipmunks. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Wiley Gibson, Willie C. Gibson and Arnold J. Gibson.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Pearl L. Gibson; daughters: Kay Gibson Matlock and husband Neal, Jonesville, VA, and Kathy Gibson Williams and husband Paul, Kingsport; granddaughters: Lisa Kay McLaughlin and husband Rob, Susie Ford and husband Howard, Christy Peters and husband Chad and Jaime Powell and husband Donnie; great-grandchildren: Dayna Kay McLaughlin, Wyatt W. Peters and Aireal L. Powell; sister, Lovely M. Bradley, Gray, along with several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 23, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. Gibson will be held on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Rev. Lisa Kay McLaughlin and Rev. Johnny Gibson, officiating. Music will provided by Johnny Miller and Alvin Goins. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Darrell Gibson, Jimmy Carr, Lee Rigsby, N.R. Canipe, Larry Coomer and Jackie Bradley.
