Fred William Luethke, 102, of Kingsport passed away peacefully on Friday morning (November 20, 2014). Simply known as “Grandad” to almost everyone who knew him, Fred was born on September 16, 1912 in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Henry and Goldie Elizabeth Luethke. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, and their children Dan Luethke, Elizabeth Ballweber, Judy Faithauer, and John Luethke. Sons, Fred, Jr. and wife Sue, Larry and wife Jane, daughter-in-law Kim, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, survive him. Of his eleven siblings, he is survived by a sister, Dee Martin, nephews, nieces, and extended family to include family friends. Fred was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church (Pine Street, Kingsport) where he loved his seniors’ Sunday school class. Fred was dedicated to his family. He traveled around the country and the world supporting the pursuits of his children and grandchildren. Fred was fond of attending Dobyns-Bennett’s sporting events and especially enjoyed attending football games and watching the band. A lifelong fan of the Tennessee Volunteers, he spent many an hour watching both the guys and the gals play for the orange team. Fred was a man of many talents. He was a carpenter, mechanic, gardener, storyteller, and cook. Grandad has blessed the lives of many, will be missed by all who love him, and will be remembered with joy and laughter.Funeral services for Fred William Luethke will be held on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Reverend Tiger Brooks officiating and Calvary Baptist Seniors Sunday School Class serving as Honorary Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until the service hour at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in The Garden of the Good Shepherd of East Lawn Memorial Park.
