Evelyn June was born in Newport, TN on May 30, 1928 to Annis and Paul Fairfield. She graduated from Virginia Intermont College and Art Instruction of Minneapolis, MN in commercial advertising in 1948. Evelyn June also took a course in art directing for television production. She taught commercial art at Virginia Intermont for two years, designed 150 costumes for the symphonic drama “The Tide of Freedom” by C. Earnest Cooke, and worked as an artist for the Research Department at Eastman Chemical. Evelyn June was a member of the Kingsport Artist Guild. After her daughter started school, Evelyn June volunteered at the clinic at Miller Perry, where she decorated the walls with murals to make the clinic more inviting.
Evelyn June is preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Lyle Shipley, and her parents, Annis and Paul Fairfield.
Those left to cherish her memories include her daughter, Katrina Loo and husband Francisco, grandchildren Alexandra and David Loo, the Anjonrin –Ohu family, the Loo family and special friends, Jim and Sue Fortney.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 21, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 4:00pm with Rev. Chris Brown officiating.
A graveside service will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6027, Kingsport, TN 37663.
