Rev. Eleanor R. Urbana, age 89, of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 22, 2017. She was born March 4, 1928 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Lloyd Hankins and the late Millie Maynard Hankins. In addition to her parents, Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband of 9 years, Victor Urbana; her brother, Lloyd Hankins and her sister, Louise Barnett.
Eleanor was a trailblazer and a pioneer. She was ordained a Minister of the Gospel in the Assemblies of God in a time when it was nearly unheard of for a woman to be in the ministry. Eleanor was an entrepreneur who owned her own service station in the 1950s, all the while raising a small daughter on her own. Eleanor had a zeal for knowledge, she spent much of her time discerning the scriptures and searching for the deep revelations of what they meant. She had a passion for preaching and teaching the scriptures. She loved her Savior and is now resting in him!
She leaves behind to honor her legacy, her daughter Christine Trejo; grandchildren: Joey Potter and wife Hillery and MeriChris Potter; great grandchildren: Gabriella, Ellie, David, Johanna, Liliana, and Chiara and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service to commemorate the life of Rev. Eleanor R. Urbana will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, June 26, 2017, in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Alford officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday. Eleanorwill be laid to rest at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S Park Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85706.
