Dorothy Lorene “Rene” Shepherd, 85, of Kingsport went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday (October 26, 2010) at her residence.
Born in Kingsport on January 21, 1925, a daughter of the late William Russell and Martha Naomi Ford Price, she has resided in this area most of her life.
Dorothy married Harvey Henry Shepherd on November 1, 1942
Mrs. Shepherd has been involved in food services for many years and was a member of Forest View Chapel Church where she sang in the choir.
Rene will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, mamaw, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by a son, John Lee Shepherd, a sister, Willie Mae Brown and a brother, John L. Price.
Survivors include her husband of 68 years, Harvey H. Shepherd, Sr. of the home; her children, Edward Shepherd and wife Janice of Mt. Carmel, James Shepherd and wife Les of New Jersey, Harvey Shepherd, Jr. and wife Brenda of Gray, Connie Gallagher and husband Robert of Johnson City; ten grandchildren, Kim Knight of Johnson City, Sarah Ray of Johnson City, Scott Shepherd of Kingsport, Josh Shepherd of Mt. Carmel, Todd Shepherd of Kingsport, Kristie Rogers of Mt. Carmel, Tammy McCormick of North Carolina, Jason Shepherd of New Jersey, Amy Shepherd of Kingsport and Erik Shepherd of Johnson City; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Lee Roy Price of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews; special caregiver Leslie Shepherd.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday (October 29, 2010) at East Lawn Funeral Home and at other hours at the residence.
A Celebration of her Life will follow at 7:00 p.m. Friday in the chapel with Pastor Billy Wayne Elkins officiating. Special music will be provided by the Joy Sound Quartet and soloist, Johnny Elkins.
Burial will follow graveside services at 2:00 p.m. Saturday (October 30, 2010) in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Those attending the committal services are asked to assemble at the funeral home by 1:45 p.m. Saturday and then proceed to the cemetery.
