Dorothy Lee Hammonds McGaha Patterson

Dorothy Lee Hammonds McGaha Patterson, age 73, of Kingsport, TN., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at Sycamore Shoals Hospital. She was born March, 18, 1937 in Kingsport, to Charles Edward and Ellen Rasnake Hammonds and was a lifelong resident of Kingsport. She was preceded in death by her first husband, James H. McGaha, her second husband, George Patterson, her mother, Ellen Rasnake Tittle, and her step son, Brian Keith Patterson. Survivors include two sons, Timothy J. McGaha and wife, a special daughter in law, Gigi of Hephzibah, Ga., Keith McGaha of Kingsport, three daughters, Jeanne Vaughn of Kingsport, Sandy McGaha of Gray, Tina McGaha Taylor and husband, a special son in law, Donnie of Kingsport, two step daughters, Tina Patterson Snapp, Linda Patterson Bowlin, one granddaughter, Nanou Gilmer of France, one great granddaughter, Alexandria “Mookie” Gilmer of France, four step grandchildren, Tobie, Crystal, Coral,and Mary Sue, her father, Charlie Hammonds of Melbourne, Fl. , two brothers, Roy and Pat Hammonds of EauGallie, Fl., Jimmie Hammonds of Denver, Colorado, two sisters, Patsy McConnell of Fall Branch, TN., Debbie Owl of Melbourne, Fl., several nieces and nephews, aunts, and uncles, and many special friends including, Retha McQueen, Barbara Fisher, and Virginia Jones. She is also survived by a host of special brothers and sisters in Christ. Special thanks to Cheryl Ward for your attempts to save our mom’s life and to her special church family for being by her side as she left this earth. To many she was known as the “Pie Lady”, who never met a stranger. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at Happy Valley Church of Jesus Christ, 2733 Elizabethton Hwy, Johnson City, TN., with the funeral service to follow at 8:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 24, 2011 at East Lawn Memorial Park. Arrangements under the direction of East Lawn Funeral Home, Kingsport, TN.
