David Michael Shields, 57, of Piney Flats, passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013. Mr. Shields was a native of Bristol, Virginia and the son of David T. Shields and the late Irene Reed Shields. He was a renouned pipefitter and a supervisor in the construction industry. Mr. Shields was well known, greatly admired and a respected mentor to all that knew him. He was considered a father figure to those who worked with him. David was a loving son, brother, father, uncle and friend. His children and grandchildren will hold him in their hearts forever. Survivors other than his father include his sister Deborah K. Davis, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; daughters: Tracy E. Harr and husband Keith of Kingsport, Ashlee Shields of Blountville and Malissa Ryals and husband Charles of Woodville, Texas; eleven grandchildren: Emily, Michael, Madison, Drew, Dillon, Abigail, Blakely and Loralye Harr; Calvin, Hunter and Logan Ryals; niece, Lesliea Cook and husband Les; a nephew David Dye, and a great nephew, Landon Cook. The family will receive friends on Friday, November 29, 2013 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. The Graveside Service will be conducted on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in East Lawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Charlie Kibler, Roger Donahue, Tim Ketron, Michael Harr, Robbie Simpson, Randall Harper, Carl Harper and David Dye. Honorary pallbearers are Tony Smith, Robert Henard, Morris Henard, Keith Harr, Charles Ryals and William T. Fuller.
