After a brief battle with cancer Charles "Leon" Flanary, 73, of Kingsport passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Brookhaven Manor with his wife and son by his side. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 50 years, Patti (Hughes) Flanary; his son, Krey and wife Misty Flanary; daughter in law, Diane Flanary; sister, Susan Flanary; and five grandchildren, Kai, Kaden, Gavin, Savanah, and Marshall. Mr. Flanary was preceded in death by his parents; Ross and Alverdia Flanary; sister, Pricilla Johnson and his oldest son Kevin Flanary. A lifelong resident of Kingsport, Leon was a graduate of Ketron High School in 1960. He proudly served in the United States Air Force. Upon completion of his military service, “Leon” worked as a buyer for Greene Supply Company and Mitchel Powers Hardware prior to retiring in 2000. Mr. Flanary was an avid and skilled woodworker and furniture maker who spent countless hours carefully crafting everything from grandfather clocks to dining room tables. He was well known in the family as the one to call when anything went wrong in the house or with a vehicle, to which he would always eagerly respond. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, working on his latest project, and spending time with his grandchildren. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 29, 2015 from 10:00am until 12:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. Charles “Leon” Flanary will be held Saturday, August 29, 2015 at 12:00pm in the chapel of East Lawn Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Wood officiating. A graveside service will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park, 4997 Memorial Blvd Kingsport, TN 37664. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Shanna, JoJo, Dr. Berndt, and the entire staff of Brookhaven Manor for the loving care and compassion for Leon.
