Clarence Charles Cain, age 88 of Kingsport, TN went home to be with the Lord at 11:58 pm Monday (March 1, 2010) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN following a period of declining health. Born in Winchester, VA, on February 9, 1922, a son of the late Herbert and Nellie Arbell Brown Cain, he has resided in this area since 1982. Charles married Mamie Lou Martin on June 18, 1944.
He was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. Charles was a former Winchester City Police Officer, a former Virginia State Trooper and retired as an Accident Investigation Specialist from the Federal Department of Transportation. He was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Wellmont Hospice House, Advanced Home Health Care Nurse, Kim Day, Dr. Aaron Metcalf and Dr. Jim R. Littlejohn.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Mamie Lou Martin Cain of the home; two daughters, Sandra Gail Cain-Omwake and husband Eo of Oxford, Pennsylvania and Addie Kay Peters and husband Steve of Hermitage, TN; four grandchildren, Sgt. Chad Peters and wife Christy, Brandon Peters, Jason Cain and wife Kate and Rebecca Harr and husband Brad; six great-grandchildren, Jeremy Peters, Jacob Peters, Logan Harr, Preston Harr, Wyatt Peters and Aiden Cain; one sister-in-law, Betty Neurdenburg and husband Bill of Kingsport, TN; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Thursday (March 4, 2010) at East Lawn Funeral Home. An Honor Guard will be provided by the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Department. Services will follow at 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the chapel with Dr. Phil Hoskins officiating.
Entombment will follow committal services at 11:00 a.m. Friday (March 5, 2010), in East Lawn Memorial Park’s Chapel of Memories Mausoleum. Dr. Shannon Salyer will officiate. Pallbearers will be Sgt. Chad Peters, Brandon Peters, Jason Cain, Brad Harr, Rebecca Harr and Steve Peters. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeremy Peters, Jacob Peters, Chuck Neurdenburg, Bill Neurdenburg, Jr.. and Bill Neurdenburg, Sr.. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Hammond Post #3 and the Gate City Post #265.
