Bobby G. Thomas, age 81 of Kingsport, was taken up into the arms of Jesus on November 24, 2016. Bobby was born on July 6, 1935 in Chuckey, TN to the late Guy Thomas and the late Trula Strong Thomas. Bobby married his best friend and love of his life, Ms. Faye Frost, and after 30 plus years of a beautiful marriage, she preceded him in death.
Bobby attended Dobyns Bennett High School and he served as Senior Class President in 1953. He played football and was a big fan of Tennessee girls’ basketball team. After attending ETSU, he worked as an insurance agent until he retired in 2005. He attended Reedy Creek Presbyterian Church most of his life; he taught Sunday school and was an Elder for many years. He was active in the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews where his help was mostly on Isaiah 58.
Bobby loved his family and friends; which he had many. He loved gardening and he unselfishly gave of his works of his garden to people in the neighborhood. He loved all types of people; from the young to the elderly. He had a servant’s heart to help all those in need.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Faye Frost Thomas; one son, Billy J. Mitchell; and one brother, Wayne Thomas. He is survived by his brothers, David Thomas (Wanda), and John Thomas (Joy); daughter-in-law, Kat Mitchell; granddaughter, Madison Mitchell; nieces, Robin Stackhouse (Grant), Margaret Cloninger (Kip), Holly Gebhardt (Craig), Sara Manis (Dan), and Lara Thomas; many loving great nieces and nephews; and special friends, Emmitt and Brenda Smith, and Billie Neeley.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm with Pastor Marshall Steinle officiating.
