Bernice L. (Rhoton) Johnson

Bernice L. (Rhoton) Johnson, 80, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 after an extended illness. She was born in Kingsport, TN on January 5, 1940 to the late Emma Kate and Jay Spriggs. Bernice lived in Kingsport her entire life and made a home for her family there. She was a loving and faithful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved all children.

She is precede in death by her first husband, Ray Rhoton, Sr., infant son, Mark Allen Rhoton, parents, Jay Spriggs and Emma Kate Anders Spriggs; and sister Joann Johnson.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 20 years, Farrell Johnson; sons, Ray Rhoton, Jr. and wife Melissa, Scott Rhoton and wife Kathy, and Brian Rhoton; brothers, Johnny Spriggs and wife Rosemary and Jackie Spriggs and wife Bobbie; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, December 18, 2020 from 3:00 to 4:00pm at East Lawn Funeral Home. A celebration of life will follow at 4:00pm with Pastor Alan Buckles officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Bernice’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
