Richard ‘Dick’ Bauer, 86, of Kingsley passed away September 30th at his home where he lived all his life. Dick was born in Kingsley, Michigan on July 17, 1932, the son of Joseph and Lena (Schmuckal) Bauer.
He graduated from, and was a lifelong parishioner, of St. Mary’s of Hannah. He married Betty (Church) on September 29, 1956 and shortly thereafter they moved to Germany where he was stationed with the U.S. Army.
Dick worked at the Traverse City State Hospital in the kitchen and in the paint shop. Dick and Betty loved to dance and could be found on the dance floor during every polka and waltz. They loved to travel and camp wherever the road took them. Dick was making friends with the neighbors before camp was even set up. Dick loved cards. His kids received weekly reports of his successes and failures playing euchre at the Rock in Kingsley, as well as all the local gossip. Dick liked to spend time in his wood working shop turning out furniture, cribbage boards, chess boards and trivets. He was proud of the Donor Tree he built, which is displayed at St Mary’s of Hannah Hall.
Dick is survived by his five children; Patty Boles (Todd Burchett), Nancy (Jeff) Mikowski, Becky (Todd) Mosley, Scott Bauer (Linda Snow) and Connie (Rick) Bach; grandchildren, Haley Boles, Alan Mikowski, Jenny Peterson, Ryan, Melissa, Caitlin and Zachary Mosley, Mike Bauer, Torre and Jaid Overaitis, Chris and Tyler Bach and Hannah Wilson; great-grandchildren Raza, Raeya and Rumi Bauer; siblings Wilma Elliott, John (Eva) Bauer and Romana (Sherwood) Herman; brother-in-laws Bruce (Loretta) Church and Milton (Sue) Church.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife Betty, his sister Dorothy Elliott and brother-in-laws Max Elliott, Maynard Elliott and Allan Morris Church.
Visitation will be held Monday, October 8th, from 4-8 p.m. at Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley and on Tuesday beginning at 10:00 am at St. Mary of Hannah Church until time Mass. A Mass of Christian burial will follow at 11:00 am.
