She attended both Petoskey and Traverse City High Schools and learned to drive a stick shift on the hills around Petoskey. While she was employed at Essex Wire, she met her husband and they were married on Dec. 20, 1969 and raised four children together. She is preceded in death by her husband who passed in 2015.
Nancy was a very energetic individual; working various jobs throughout the years including being a cashier at Toms Market, RL Polk and Company, and lastly at Munson Medical Center where she worked until retirement in 1995.
Her hobbies included gardening, knitting, all outdoor activities, and going for her daily walk. Nancy was an accomplished bridge walker, having done the Labor Day Mackinaw Bridge walk for over 40 years. She also looked forward to attending the Cherry Royal Parade every year at the Cherry Festival with her family.
All of those hobbies aside, her family was her most precious gift and she cherished spending time with all of them.
She is survived by her children, Robert (Tanya), Joseph (Elaine), Melissa (Justin) Orth, and Tammy (Michael) Arlt. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and siblings, Dr. Irvin (Rosemarie) Potts Jr. , and Francis (Eleanor) Potts. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant sister at birth.
Visitation will be held at the Covell Funeral Home in Kingsley on Thursday, March 5 from 6-8 p.m., continuing on Friday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Kingsley United Methodist Church, with service at 11:00 a.m. A spring burial will be held at Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kingsley United Methodist Church.
