Mary Elizabeth Covell, 90, of Kingsley, passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at Munson Medical Center. Mary was born in Trenton, New Jersey, December 3, 1921, the daughter of Conrad and Florence (Young) Fink. On September 1, 1940, she married Arthur L. Covell, who survives.
Mary was a resident of Trenton, New Jersey until 1963 when she and her family moved to Michigan. The wife of a Seventh-Day Adventist Clergyman, she and her husband had pastored several churches, including Coldwater, Jackson, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Lansing. She had also worked for the Sate of New Jersey, the Jackson Michigan Public Library, Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Dr. William Harrell in Kalamazoo, and the Michigan Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists in Lansing. After her retirement in 1984, she and her husband moved to Kingsley and enjoyed working with her sons in the Covell Funeral Homes. Mary was a member of the Traverse City Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Secretary-Treasurer of the Blackman Flower Club of Kingsley, and dearly loved her volunteer work at Munson Medical Center. She was a tireless hostess who loved to cook and bake for family and friends.
Mary is survived by her husband of 71 years, Arthur L. Covell of Kingsley, 2 sons: Douglas A. Covell of Holmes Beach, FL, and Dennis (Ann) Covell of Kingsley; 6 grandchildren: David E. Covell of Los Angeles, CA, Daniel A. (Natali) Covell of Las Vegas, NV, Nikole (Paul) Channels of Hudson, MI, Cassidy Covell of Holmes Beach, FL, Thomas Stebner of Grand Rapids, MI, and Kenneth Stebner of Traverse City; 3 great grandchildren: Morgan, Ben, and Mark Channels; 1 sister Harriet Eib of Dayton Beach, FL, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Debra M. Poston in 2010, daughter-in-law Cheri Covell in 2009, 8 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Traverse City Seventh-Day Adventist Church, located at the corner of Hammond and Four Mile Roads. Pastors Ben Boggess and Wes Peppers will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at the Barnum Cemetery, Mayfield. Friends may call at the Covell Funeral Home, Kingsley, on Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 2-8 p.m., and at the church on Friday from 12 noon until time of service. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Traverse City Seventh-Day Adventist Church Building Fund.
