She graduated from Fife Lake High School in 1944, and then started working for Michigan Bell from 1946-1950. On August 19, 1950 in Traverse City, she married Willard Stein, who preceded her in death on Jan. 4, 2016. The couple made Kingsley their lifelong home, and raised their family there. After establishing their family, Doris re-entered the work force and was employed at Normic Industry in Traverse City for over 20 years, retiring in 1991. She attended East Bay Calvary Church and also Kingsley Baptist Church. Doris enjoyed to dance, travel, go camping, and bird watch, but her favorite activity was spending time with her family at many of their picnics or corn roasts.
Doris is survived by her children; Karen (Dave) Brayton, Randy Stein, Grandchildren; Mike (Anne) Brayton, Michelle (Lance) DeVries, Matt (Barbi) Brayton, and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Vera Riley, Irene Stremlow, Helen Fritz, Leona Nye, and brother Jay Newmarch. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kingsley Baptist Church until the time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Mike Brayton officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery in Kingsley. Memorial contribution in lieu of flowers appreciated to Kingsley Baptist Church.
