William “Bill” lived a full and remarkable life. He survived the Great Depression, the "Dust Bowl", served in the National Guard in Little Rock Central High School, during the integration in 1957. Bill served his country proudly in the United States Army and bravely served in the Korean War and the Vietnam War. Receiving Bronze Stars and many other medals and certificates of commendation for his service during his career.
He retired in Killeen, TX and later moved to Austin, TX and worked for The Texas Department of Public Safety. He was the Security Detail at the State Capital under the leadership of then Governor George W Bush. He lived his life daily doing what he enjoyed as a devoted family man, a horseman, a musician playing guitar and song writing, a husband, a father, and a doting Paw-Paw. He especially enjoyed Saturday nights playing Texas Hold'Em with the family.
Bill passed away Thursday night, March 9, 2017, at his home surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
He will be forever missed by all. Bill had an infectious smile and charisma that could only be measured against the most famous handsome cowboys and musicians of his time.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Le Thi Baker and is survived by his children Bobby Baker Sr. and wife Sandy; Sharon Lyons; Billy H Baker; Le Hong Carlson and husband Richard; Lovie Baker-Carroll; LeJune Ortiz and husband Felipe. Grandchildren Candace Baker-Garner and husband Luke, Jasmine Sedillo, Bobby Baker Jr and wife Elizabeth, Ashley Key and husband Leon Chapa, Samantha Lindquist, Ronnie Carroll, Hanna Ortiz, Adriana Baker, and Gracie Clarkson. Great grandchildren Gabi and Julian Chapa, Ally Garner; as well as many nephews, nieces, great nephews, and great nieces.
Memorial services will be held at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, TX on Tuesday March 14, 2017 from 7:00-8:00 PM, led by Pastor Felipe Ortiz. Friends are welcome for viewing from 5:00-7:00 PM.
Burial will be held at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, TX on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 10:00 AM, led by Pastor Joe Manuel.
