He was born to Alfred J. and Alma Glaser Wedel on April 18, 1926 in Stringtown near Rogers, Texas.
He graduated from Rogers High School in 1943.
In 1944 he married Eloise Hughes; she later passed away in 1974.
On September 3, 1976, Walter (Leroy) married Mildred Peters in Temple, Texas. Walter was a long time member of the W.S. Young Church of Christ where he served as a deacon for 45 years.
From 1950 – 1968, he maintained the telephone and alarm system at West Ft. Hood.
Then from 1969 – 1982, he was Wire Chief & General Foreman over the telephone and cable TV sections consisting of North Ft. Hood, West Ft. Hood and the Main Post. He retired in 1982 with 36 years of service.
From 1983 – 1997, he sold real estate for Holiday Homes in Killeen, Texas.
Walter is survived by his wife Mildred, son Stan and wife Ann of Austin, daughter-in-law Dianne Wedel of Belton, stepson Clifton Peters and wife Charla of Belton and step-daughter Susan Peters and husband Bill of Ft. Worth, a sister Bea McCauley of Catonsville, Maryland.
He has three grandchildren, Stacie Edwards and husband Jimmy of Killeen, Aaron Peters of Belton and Ansley Allen and husband Scott of Belton. Four Great-grandchildren, Madison, A.J., Ryker and Keona. He was preceded in death by his son Galen Wedel, who passed on October 3, 2006 & his parents.
Visitation will be Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the W.S. Young Church of Christ. Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Dan Carter & Boyce Edwards officiating. Burial will be at the Killeen City Cemetery.

A big thank you to the doctors, nurses and aides on STC 2 at Scott & White Hospital. We will be eternally grateful to the nurses and aides at Weston Inn for their love, respect and care given to Leroy and for the care and friendship they gave to the family.
