Travis was born July 22, 1976 in Fort Benning, Georgia to Guy Thompson and Pamela (Grantham) Hinds. He attended Copperas Cove ISD from kindergarten through the fourth grade and completed junior high and high school in Coleman, TX. In 1994, just a few months after graduating from Coleman High School, Travis enlisted in the U.S. Army and embarked on a career as an air traffic controller that spanned more than 25 years.
Almost as soon as he could walk, Travis was a bit of a dare devil. He made the climbs, took the leaps, and said the words and jokes that others feared to even attempt. In the past few years he took up skydiving to relieve stress and anxiety (it worked well for him, even if it had the opposite effect on the rest of us). Guided by their Dad, Travis and his brother developed a love for the outdoors at an early age - a love he shared with his family and friends throughout his life. In addition to skydiving, he loved hunting and camping (especially in Texas and Colorado), riding motorcycles, and generally spending time with the people he loved. Travis was a true people person who could make just about anybody laugh. If you resisted, he just tried that much harder. Travis was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, and friend who was (and is still) loved by his family, close friends, and many others.
His son, Brendon Thompson, preceded Travis in death.
He is survived by his wife, Ava Thompson of Killeen; four sons, Tristan Thompson currently stationed at Hill AFB, Utah, Ashton Thompson, Max Smith and Raleigh Smith all of Killeen; a daughter, Victoria Thompson of Killeen; his father, Guy Thompson and his wife Jo Ann of Boerne; his mother, Pamela Hinds and her husband David of Coleman; a brother, Patrick Thompson and his wife Sara of Katy; a sister, Cheryl Middleton and her husband Don of Abilene and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family members.
