Sandra Sue Owens

Funeral Services for Sandra Sue Owens 78, of Killeen, will be 1:00 PM Saturday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen with a private burial to follow. Sandra was born May 25, 1941, in a farmhouse Northeast of Killeen, Texas delivered into the world by Dr. Joe Fowler and assisted by her Grandmother Mrs. Harris.

Her Father R.Q. Bay had come from the Coryell County area and her mother Bessie Harris Bay came from the rural area around Killeen, Texas. And two of them were Native Texans with a long history of Old South and Western traditions.

Sandra attended elementary and middle school in Killeen and Belton. She graduated from Killeen High School in 1959 with honors from the National Honor Society and then she graduated from Temple Junior College in 1961.

Sandra and Harvie E. Owens were married on August 18, 1961, and then she graduated from the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in 1964. Their only child, Harvie E. Owens, Jr., passed away in 1982. She was preceded in death by her parents, R.Q. and Bessie Bay, husband, Harvie E. Owens Sr., Son, Harvie E. Owens Jr., and Sister, Barbara Bay Rucks.

Sandra taught in the public school system in Valley Mills, Copperas Cove and Killeen, Texas. She also worked with her husband on their many personal and business projects. They were a team and worked all of their lives together as the “Brain and the Brawn” and were married 55 years. Sandra was devoted to her family, friends and just a little fun. Her favorite words to sign off a letter were: “Love, Luck and Laughter, Sandra.”

Sandra is survived by Niece, Vickie Farmer of Corsicana, Texas, Nephew, Floyd Rucks Jr. and wife, Danielle of Tyler, Texas, Brother-in-Law, Floyd Rucks Sr. of Corsicana, Texas, Sister-in-Law, Debra Kelsey and husband, Johnny Kelsey Jr. of Pendleton, Texas, Brother-in-Law, Darrell Owens and wife, Virginia of Pendleton, Texas, Nieces, Samantha Garcia and Nicole Dees, of Pendleton, Texas, Nephew, Colby Kelsey of Pendleton, Texas, close family friend/caregiver, Priscilla Wilson of Killeen, Texas and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be prior to the service 12:00-1:00 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen which is in charge of the arrangements.
