After a battle with cancer, Roy died October 4, 2011 at home, surrounded by family.
Mr. Conder was born to Roy Everett Conder and Lyndal Clotide (Mecom) Conder on June 29, 1925, in Killeen, Texas. Born on the old Bacon Ranch, Roy grew up in the Killeen Area. He joined the Marine Corps in 1943, seeing action in World War II, the Korean conflict, and training reservists for duty in Vietnam. He retired as Master Sergeant in 1968.
Roy married Norma Lillian Adams in 1952. They reared five girls, staying busy with family, friends and church, in Southern California, moving back to Central Texas in 1978. Following his military service, Roy worked for Prudential Overall Supply as top route salesman for ten years in San Diego, CA, and then managed Action Pawn in Killeen, TX for a decade.
Mr. Conder spent his retirement years working on the farm, helping out at Mickey’s, helping raise 4-H projects, golfing, bowling and playing dominoes. He also enjoyed traveling to Japan, China, Hawaii, and Alaska, and camping on the lake.
Roy was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sisters Nell Wilson and Mary Lynn Woods.
Roy is survived by his daughters, Patricia Locke and her husband Gary of Kingwood, Katherine Buchanan and her husband Ed of Salado, Barbara Agee and her husband, Dan of Salado, Virginia Prince and her husband David of Friendswood, and Donna Conder of Kingwood. He is also survived by his sisters, Johnnie Barrett of Salado, 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Roy loved God, life, family and friends. There was no one like “Pop”. He never met a stranger and always had a project in the works.
Special recognition goes to his surviving best friend and companion, Terecia Schroeder and her daughters Karen and Debra and their families. Roy lived, loved, and traveled with Terecia her family the last twenty years of his life. His love of family, both his and hers, added joy, purpose, and enrichment to the last years of his life.
The family will receive visitors at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday evening.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maxdale Cowboy Church building fund.
