Richard Norris Reaves, 79 of Killeen passed from this earth on April 21, 2015 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 28, 1935 to Charlie Reaves and Sarah Parker in Killeen, Texas. He was a 1954 graduate of Killeen High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1954.
In 1957, he met the love of his life, Betty Porter of Logan, West Virginia. They married on April 30, 1957 in Vallejo, California. He served in the Navy from 1954 to 1974. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer IC Electrician and moved his family back to Killeen. In 1975, he began working on Fort Hood as a civil service employee until retiring in 1996.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. His love and laughter will be greatly missed, but we know that he is with our Heavenly Father. Richard served as deacon at First Baptist Church Trimmier for several years.
He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Aaron Reaves; daughter-in-law, Joyce M Reaves; father, Charlie Reaves; mother, Sarah Parker Reaves Broussard; brother, Charles D Reaves and sister Louise Griffin.
He is survived by his Wife - Betty J Reaves of Killeen; Sons - Jeffrey A Reaves and Edward N Reaves of Killeen; Daughter- Deborah K Hershberger and her husband Richard Hershberger of Killeen; Grandchildren - Nicole A Smothers (husband Robert Smothers) of Killeen; Jennifer R Shelley (husband Tony) of Waco; Cory A Reaves of Houston; Joshua S Hershberger of Killeen and Deanna K Hershberger of Austin. Step grandchildren - Christina Maldanado (husband Fabian) of Killeen; Daniel Harding of Oregon; Great Grandchildren - Alayna Whitecotton of CA; Lucas Brady of Waco; Kaitlyn Warner of Killeen; Sisters-Maxine Byram (husband Buck) of Georgetown; JoAnn Miears of Big Spring and Brother-Joe R Reaves of Killeen.
The Reaves family will receive guests for a time of visitation on Friday, April 24, 2015 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home of Killeen. Burial with military honor will follow the visitation at 12:00 PM in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
