The family of Maurice Lloyd Romeo of Killeen, Texas announces his passing on April 13, 2024. Maurice was born on Mother's Day, May 9, 1965, to Rehenia Thompson Romeo and Lloyd Waldemar Romeo, in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He lived with his family on St. Thomas in Estate Bovoni. The atmosphere in Estate Bovoni was a community of families, including the Askas, Edwards, Joseph, Kuntz, and Woods, that molded him into a fine young man.
He lived in St. Thomas until he joined the military at age nineteen when he enlisted in the United States Army. For 12 years, he served with honor and distinction, embodying the values of duty, honor, and selflessness that define the noblest of warriors.
After his honorable discharge from the military, Maurice embarked on a new chapter of his life. He worked at the Central Technical Support Facility as an instrumentation specialist for 13 years and graduated from the University of Phoenix with a BS in information technology. Soon after graduation, he began working in the Information Technology Department at the Veterans Health Administration Department of Veterans Affairs, working his way to a supervisory IT specialist. His dedication to his work was surpassed only by his unwavering commitment to serving those in need, a testament to his compassionate nature and indomitable spirit. Maurice touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, integrity, and unwavering devotion to his family and country. Though he may no longer walk among us, his memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of those who loved him.
Besides his parents, Maurice leaves his sister, Valarie Romeo, aunts, Arlene Romeo Ware, Althea Romeo Mark, and Ianthe Romeo Baynes, and special friend, Hayley Woods Rodriguez.
He was preceded in death by his aunt Florecia Thompson Wheatley. She produced eleven children, starting with Bernice Decastro Denbow, and in so doing, gave Maurice a large family of cousins on St. Thomas and the mainland.
Maurice's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. May he rest in peace, knowing that he made a difference in the lives of so many.
A Visitation for Maurice will be held Tuesday, April 23, 2024 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home. A Service will occur Tuesday, April 23, 2024 at 1:30 PM followed by a Committal Service with Military Honors at 3:00 PM at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
