Services for Mary Elizabeth Massie Hicks will be 10am Monday September 12 at First Baptist Church of Trimmier.
Mary Elizabeth Massie Hicks was born on February 13, 1934 to William Nathan and Emmer Elizabeth Parker Massie in the Trimmier Community and passed away on September 6, 2016 in Temple.
Mary grew up in the Trimmier Community and graduated from Killeen High School 1951 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. On September 22, 1950, she married Ellis Weldon Hicks and spent the rest of her life serving faithfully by his side. She was an active member of Cedar Knob Baptist Church in Killeen, East Side Baptist Church in Killeen, Immanuel Baptist Church in Temple, County Line Baptist Church in Rogers and, for the last 24 years, First Baptist Church of Trimmier in Killeen, where Weldon was pastor until his retirement. Over the years, she served as a member of the choir and Women’s Missionary Union, taught children’s Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and served in the church library, in addition to serving in countless other ways wherever she was needed. She was also an active part of the Bell Baptist Association and Texas Baptists and represented her church as a messenger at their annual meeting a number of times. Mary was an integral part of the Trimmier Community as a member of Trimmier Friendship Club. But wherever Mary was, whether at church, in the community, or with her family, she lived a life marked by the deep grace of Jesus Christ and pointed others to Him in everything she did. She faithfully lived out Colossians 3:23: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men.”
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, William Nathan and Emma Elizabeth Parker Massie; her brothers, Cecil Alton Massie and William Wenston Massie; and sisters-in-law, Nina Lorena Massie, Virginia Robbins Massie and Dorothy Jean Massie. She was also preceded by twin brothers who died at birth.
Mary is survived by her husband, Ellis Weldon Hicks; her nieces and nephews, Peggy Massie Johnson and her husband Mike, and Sandra Massie McBride, and her husband Wade; her great-nieces and nephews, Sarah Elizabeth Johnson, Megan Massie McBride Brimijoin, and her husband Bill, William Michael Johnson, and Nathan Massie Johnson, and his wife Jaclynn; one great-great nephew, Cameron Pierce Brimijoin; and a number of cousins.
