Sergeant Major (Ret.) Marvin L. Cummings was born June 24, 1925, in Pittsburg, Texas, to Clinton O. and Myrtle (Peoples) Cummings.
He attended Pittsburg High School in Pittsburg, Texas. He joined the U. S. Army in 1945 and served in the South Pacific as a Military Policeman. He was transferred to Newport News, Virginia where he met and married Kathleen McKinney, moving with his family to France, Germany, Kansas and Texas. He served in in the Korean War and two tours in Vietnam.
An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he also loved basketball, football and playing card games with his family and friends. He was an active Mason and a member of VFW Chapter 9191 and earned an Associate’s Degree from Central Texas College in Killeen, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Cummings of Killeen; his sister, Mildred Faye Hartwell of Houston, Texas. With this union he is survived by four sons, Frederick L. Cummings (Ginger) of Algonquin, Illinois, Marvin W. Cummings (Sue) of Harker Heights, Texas, Phillip T. Cummings (Eva) of Harker Heights, Texas, Gregory O. Cummings of Oceanside, California, and two daughters, D. Rhena Thornwell of Charlotte, NC, and E. Chantal Sutton (Paul) of Dallas, Texas. He is also survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, C. Odell Cummings and his mother, Myrtle Anderson.
