Maria Bernal

Funeral Services for Maria Bernal will be held 2:00 PM Friday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. The family will host a gathering and light meal at Mrs. Benal’s residence following the service.

Maria was born November 20, 1926 in New Braunfels, one of ten children, to the late Pedro and Marcelina Guerrero Gaytan. She passed away in Killeen on October 18, 2019, with her children by her side. She only completed grade 5 in her education as she was expected to work in the fields with her siblings, however she did eventually go back to school and completed her G.E.D. She met and married the love of her life, Margarito Garcia Bernal on June 12, 1946 in New Braunfels. Her primary occupation was being a military wife for 20+ years, a homemaker and parent to their 6 children and helping to raise their 71 grandkids. She also worked outside the home at times, helping in the school kitchens and as a seamstress in a dry cleaning business.

Maria loved crafts and spent much of her time with ceramics and occasionally enjoyed bowling and fishing. She was a longstanding member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, enjoyed traveling, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play.

Maria is survived by her daughters, Amelia, Linda, Ofelia and Aurora; sons, Ruben and Raul; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held prior to the service 12:00-2:00 PM Friday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen which is in charge of the arrangements.
