Services for retired MSG Juan Fonseca-Ortiz, 92, of Killeen, will be held on Tuesday, June 28, at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen, TX. The family will receive guests for visitation from 10:00 – 11:30 am followed by a service. A Graveside Service at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, with military honors, will take place at 1:00 pm.
Juan Fonseca-Ortiz passed into eternity Thursday, June 16, 2022. Juan was born December 27,1929 to Juana Ortiz and Marcelino Fonseca in Maunabo, Puerto Rico. Mr. Fonseca-Ortiz married Alicia Gomez on August 8,1953 in Humacao, PR. They were parents to four children.
Juan proudly served his country in The United States Army for 23 years, with deployments to the Korean and the Vietnam War. His awards include National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Good Conduct Medal Silver with 1 loop; Korean Service Medal; United Nations Service Medal; Combat Infantryman Badge; Army Commendation Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Stars and numerous other commendations.
After retiring from the Army, he earned his Associate degree and worked at the United States Postal Service for 21 years. Juan loved spending time outside tending to his yard, plants, and vegetable garden.
Mr. Fonseca is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Alicia Fonseca Gomez, a brother and three sisters.
He is survived by his son Victor Fonseca and wife Julia of Harker Heights, TX, son Nelson Fonseca and wife Marian of Chicago, IL; daughter Vilma Fonseca-Faddoul and husband George of Cedar Park, TX, daughter Evelyn Fonseca-Matheny and husband Douglas of Killeen; 2 sisters, Candita and Emeteria Fonseca of Puerto Rico; 7 grandchildren, Priscilla Fonseca, Chaney Fonseca and Logan Fonseca, Marissia and Gisella Faddoul, Alexander and Arianna Matheny; and 4 great grandchildren.
