Jo Lou Ford Smith

Funeral services for Jo Lou Smith, 70, of Belton formerly of Killeen, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with Pastor Jack Husung Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Gillum Cemetery in Oakalla.

Mrs. Smith died Sept. 2, 2010, in a Temple hospital.

She was born March 24, 1940, in Carlton to Richard Douglas Ford and Velma Orie Fisher Ford. She married A.W. “Shorty” Smith on Feb. 7, 1964, in Killeen. She lived in the Killeen area all of her life. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, American Business Women’s Association, and the Ladies Auxiliary for the Killeen Volunteer Fire Department. Mrs. Smith worked as the office manager for Connell Chevrolet for 35 years, retiring in 2005.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Rayford Ford in 2004.

Survivors include her husband, Shorty Smith; two sons, Dennis Smith and his wife, Donna, and Clinton Smith, all of Belton; three grandchildren, Reesa, Hunter, and Riley Smith, all of Belton; three sisters, Corrine Oberholtzer of Pennsylvania, Velma Dewitt of Cuero and Charlice Mensch of Killeen.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Central Texas Children’s Center, 2000 Marlandwood Road, Temple, TX 76502.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
