James H. McQueen, Jr., age 90, formerly of Killeen, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2018 in Deer Park, Texas. He was born on August 3, 1927 in Holland, Texas to James H. McQueen, Sr. and Velma(Ashcraft) McQueen. He was a graduate of Temple High School in June 1947, served in the US Navy from August 1945 to June1950 and married Elrita Ann Hoelscher on January 19, 1949.
The US Navy took the newly weds to Florida to start out married life. After Florida, Mr. and Mrs. McQueen moved back to Temple and started their family. In 1964, the McQueens moved to Killeen, where they lived for almost 50 years. Mr. and Mrs. McQueen owned McQueen's Repair Shop from 1964 until 1994. After retirement from the repair shop, the McQueens operated a food trailer, going from festival to festival throughout Texas in a motor home. After 64 years of marriage, Mrs. McQueen passed in 2013. Mr. McQueen then moved to Deer Park, Texas to spend his final years.
Throughout life, James had many hobbies. He raised fish, reptiles, rodents and rabbits. He enjoyed motorcycles, motorcycle racing, camping, fishing, small-game hunting, rock collecting, wine and candle making.
He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, his sister Sue Sollee, his daughter-in-law Priscilla McQueen and his daughter-in-law Kim Baggett McQueen.
His survivors are his son, Gary McQueen, of Killeen; daughter, Sharon DuBois and her husband, George, of Phelan, California; son, Dennis McQueen, of Killeen; daughter, Nancy Petrino and her husband,
Russell, of Deer Park, Texas; daughter, Michelle Robison and her husband, Nathan, of Toney, Alabama; brother, Weldon McQueen and his wife, Ella of Temple; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
A special thank you and appreciation must be given to the staff at San Jacinto Manor in Deer Park, Texas for all the loving care they took of Mr. McQueen for four years.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 28, 2018 from 3 - 5 PM at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen. A service will be held in the chapel at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home on Monday, January 29,
2018 at 11 AM. Burial will take place after the service at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
