James Cosper

Services for James Cosper , 91, of Fort Worth will be 2:00pm Wednesday January 5, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home Chapel in Killeen with Dr. Terry Williams of Burleson, Texas officiating. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery in Youngsport. The family will receive visitors from 1-2pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Cosper is survived by his wife; Shirley, one son; James W. Cosper, Jr. (Jim), two daughters; Gloria Dunn, and Linda Carrell, three grandchildren; Ken, Janice, and Candice, five great grandchildren; two great -great grandchildren numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Killeen who he loved dearly, and Benny Clanton who was like a son to him for nearly forty years.

James was born in Killeen (Bell County) on July 29, 1919.

He was preceded in death by his father; James Benjamin Cosper and mother Mary Evelyn Hicks, sisters; Goldie Love Ebertowski, Clara May Tucker and his first wife Doris.

He started working at General Dynamics in August 1942 when it was Consolidated where he was a Quality Control Supervisor for many years. He retired in 1982 to care for his wife who was in bad health.

He loved Bell County, his farm there, and his cattle. His life-long dream was to build a home on the site where his father was born and a where a marker was placed in his memory.

He was a charter member of River Oaks Baptist Church, a member of Arlington Heights Masonic Lodge #1184 and a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason, member of the River Oaks Lions Club, the Elks Club of Fort Worth, and General Dynamics Management Club .

June 8, 2001 was declared James Cosper Day in recognition of his dedication to Bell County.

He served as a member of the River Oaks City Council in the 1950’s and served as the Civil Defense and Disaster Officer in 1955. A monument was erected and dedicated to honor him for his role in this effort.

Pallbearers will be Vince Adams, Robert Mc Kinney Allen Cloud, John Clanton, Scott Cosper, Ronnie Carroll, Bennie Ebertowski, and Gene Tucker.

The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the following for the love and care that was given to James the last years: Personal Touch, Town Village Ridgmar, Broadway Plaza, and Trail Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Memorial s may be made to the Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas.
