January 10, 1947 - October 8, 2015
Jack H. Isbell, Ph.D., passed away on October 8, 2015, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. In addition to his educational accomplishments, Dr. Isbell was also a retired U.S. Army Chaplain (Major). He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Verna Jean Isbell; sons James Warren Isbell, Joshua Samuel Isbell, and Vern T. Darlington; daughter Christina Michelle Isbell Oyler; eleven amazing grandchildren; sister Martha Cassile Isbell Jordan; and brother Gregory Richardson Isbell; grandchildren Tony Isbell, Westin Isbell, Chelsea Morris, Haley Isbell, Ethan Isbell, Samantha Isbell, Savannah Oyler, Jansen Oyler, Joshua Oyler and Haven Cathey, Lauren Anne Arnold..
He was born in Beaumont, Texas, on January 10, 1947, to Mattie Eunice Richardson Isbell and Sammie Jackson Isbell, both deceased. He graduated from Buna (Texas) High School. He then served in the United States Air Force seven years. He began pastoring and building churches as he attended Grand Canyon University for his Bachelor Science and Golden Gate Seminary, Mill Valley, California, for the Master of Divinity degree. After twelve years of pastoring he served as a Chaplain in the United States Army for 20 years. He continued to pastor, build a church, and do graduate work to pursue theology, philosophy, and psychology. In 1995, he eared a Ph.D. from Capella University. He was a professor at Central Texas College for 20 years. He again served his community by becoming a broker for Isbell Properties, with the motto "soldier serving soldiers."
Jack's philosophical beliefs laid the framework for how he devoted his life to service and stewardship in his time in the Armed Forces; to his dedication to his family; to his commitment to his reverent faith and religious practices; and to his work as a professor inspiring young minds to stretch beyond their limits. His mark on this world will carry on in all those he touched, challenged, and loved.
Memorial service sill be held October 16, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, 1615 S. Fort Hood Road, Killeen, Texas, with interment following at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery at 12:00 noon, 11463 State Hwy. 195 Killeen, Texas.
