Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 22, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
Jack, aka Grandpa Jack, was born in Tennessee on July 21, 1933. A proud Army veteran, Jack began his distinguished career in 1952, and was stationed in Japan, Germany, Vietnam and Fort Hood. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant Major in 1978. After his retirement, Jack vowed to never jump out of a perfectly good airplane again.
After spotting Joyce Acevedo on a beach in Hawaii, the two met and eventually married on April 20, 1957. Jack was the epitome of a devoted husband. Throughout his extended deployments, he never failed to let his family know that his heart was with them back home. Their three sons, Michael, Paul and Kenny inherited this commitment to family and perhaps a touch of Jack’s legendary stubbornness.
A member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Jack was well-known in the Killeen community for his generosity, kindness and compassion. These qualities lead him to provide countless hours of selfless giving in the church and the community, most notably to the Temple Community Clinic, where Joyce and he donated supplies and other needed items to make sure someone in need could use them.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife of 54 years, Joyce.
Survivors:
Left behind to cherish his memory are his sons, Michael, Paul (Mary) and Kenny (Cay); grandsons, Steven and Adam (Lauren); sister Florence; niece Kim; as well as a host of friends and neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, Jack would appreciate you paying it forward by donating to the Temple Community (Free) Clinic, 1905 Curtis B Elliot Drive, Temple, TX 76501. www.templecommunityclinic.org.
