The Barnes Family is heartbroken to announce the death of our patriarch, Henry Barnes Sr. He passed away peacefully with friends and family by his side at the age of eighty-eight. He was gregarious and always had a way of making people laugh. During his 22-year Army career, he boxed Golden Gloves with the 503rd Fighters and traveled to Germany, Thailand, Ft. Hood, and Okinawa where he met his wife, and a new chapter of his life began. While stationed at Ft. Hood he purchased a home for his family and is considered one of the original remaining Dad’s of the block. His enterprising spirit and love of karaoke and dancing led him to buy and manage the Lucky 7 club in downtown Killeen in 1989.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Keiko and his two sons Henry Barnes Jr. (Shawano, Wisconsin) and Marcus O. Barnes (Houston, Texas). In addition, his brothers Herbert and Arthur Long, and nephews, Danny, Sherry and Ronnie Long from Norfolk, Virginia. He was proud of his grandchildren Tristen Wilson of Las Vegas, Dakota and Tashalia Barnes from Rib Lake, Wisconsin and great-grandchildren Lilly, Oliva and Michael also from Rib Lake. He is preceded in death by his mother Emma Lee Barnes, his father Herbert Long Sr. and his three sisters Henrietta, Geraldine and Emma Long and brother Earl Long.
