CWO-4 George Perry Evans born January 13, 1942 in Mt. Carmel, LA passed away December 15, 2020 in a Jefferson Hospital in Cherry Hill, NJ. He was 78. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles Perry Evans and Madie Scott Evans and brothers Louis and Walter Evans.
George began his military career when he enlisted in the Navy June 2, 1959, the day after he graduated from George Washington Carver High School in DeRidder, LA. He was commissioned a Warrant Officer in June 1968. He retired from the Navy February 1, 1983 after serving 23 years and 8 months.
During his career in the Navy he was the “Weapons Specialist” on 4 different ships. On shore duty he was an instructor and was appointed by the Department of Defense to serve as a minority affairs officer. He was also a mentor to young sailors at his various duty stations. Upon retirement from the Navy he went to work for Missile Surface Radar (AEGIS) in Moorestown, NJ as a “Tech Rep”. His careers in the Navy and AEGIS took him to various countries around the globe.
He started photography as a hobby in the Navy and later was often hired to photograph parties, weddings and anniversary events. After retirement from AEGIS he became a volunteer with the local Sea Cadets based at McGuire AFB, NJ serving as their Executive Officer. His hobby is model trains.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 53 years Demetra Evans and many friends in Cherry Hill, NJ. In Harker Heights-Killeen, TX, his son Richard; Granddaughters Marcelina and Marquita; Great Grandchildren E-Lina, Emanuel, Joseph, and Jayleigh. In Louisiana, brother Willie; in Texas sisters Emma, Lucy, Lazetta, and brother Wayne plus a host of nieces and nephews and many friends around the country.
