Felix was born March 31, 1928 in Puntas de Rincon Puerto Rico to parents Vicente Cardona and Isabel Diaz Cardona.
Mr. Cardona grew up in Puerto Rico where he was a farmer, he later moved to New York where he proudly enlisted in the US Army. He served for 29 years and fought bravely in 2 wars retiring as a Sergeant Major. His military career spanned the world, including Vietnam, Iran, Germany, and Korea, as well as many posts in the US; he spent 7 years as the Chief instructor for the Department of Military Science at Providence College in Providence Rhode Island. After his military career he went on to his second career as a Counselor/ Coordinator for Handicapped Student Services at Central Texas College. He believed in the rights of the disabled and was the proud founder of the “We can Do It club.”
Felix Cardona died peacefully Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at home surrounded by his family. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years Mary Cardona, Sons, Felix R. Cardona and his wife OK, Carlos Cardona and his wife Terry, Daughters Maria Cohee and her husband Lynn, and Cindy Hicks and her husband Clyde. Grandchildren: Lynn E Cohee, Travis Cohee, Ricky Cardona, Carlos Cardona and Christopher Zeniecki, Sara Cardona, Codi Zeniecki, Linda Scott, Tyler Hicks, Taylor Hicks and Ryan Hicks. Great Grandchildren: Stella Cardona, Elia Cohee, Lynn Cohee III, Liam Cardona, and one on the way. Brother, Vicente Cardona, Sisters Felicity Rosario and Constancia Saltares
He made Killeen his home, where he was an active member of the St Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus council 4724, Sociedad Cultural Hispano-Americana, and LULAC. He was an avid Volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and a volunteer counselor for the Department of Human Resources.
He graduated from Providence College with his BA and later earned his Masters Degree in psychology from the University of Central Texas College.
The family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6pm-8pm Saturday November 27 and on Sunday, November 28th from 5pm to 7pm with a rosary being recited at 7pm in the chapel of Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Killeen.
Serving as pallbearers will Travis Cohee, Lynn Cohee, Ricky Cardona, Carlos Cardona, Christopher Zeniecki and Codi Zeniecki. Serving as honorary pallbearer will be Ryan Hicks.
