A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Dorothy Joan Covaleski (Shivok), 87, on Tuesday, August 2 at 0930 at St. Paul Chong Hasang Catholic Church in Harker Heights with Reverends Frank Matera, her nephew, and Richard O’Rourke, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery.
Mrs. Covaleski passed away on July 22, 2011.
Dorothy was born in New Britain, CT on October 1, 1923 to Adam Shivok Sr. and Agatha Petrowski Shivok.
On June 15, 1946, she married Joseph Covaleski. They later moved to Newington where they built their home and raised their children.
She was a member of St. Andrews Catholic Church and an active member of the Ladies Guild. When they moved to Newington, they became members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Newington. Dorothy was active in the Newington Garden Club. She worked for Hartford National Bank as an administrative assistant until her retirement in 1988. Dorothy and Joseph were both active in the local AARP and the Newington Senior Citizens Center until they moved to Texas in 2008 to be close to family.
We will always remember her faith in God, her love of family, her talent in gardening and floral design, and her love of music and dance.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Joseph, her parents Agatha and Adam, daughter, Donna, brother, Adam Shivok, and her sisters Anna Shivok, Eva Shivok, and Bertha Matera.
She is survived by son, Neil Covaleski and wife Sheree of Wisconsin, grandsons Jason Covaleski of Wisconsin, Brendan Covaleski of Utah, and Matthew Covaleski of Colorado: daughter Sharon Schmitz and husband Stephen of Harker Heights, granddaughters Catherine Schmitz of Killeen, and Laura Crocker and husband Quinton of Temple, great grandsons Colton, Brody and Jonathan, and several nephews, grand nieces, grandnephews and cousins.
Visitation will be Monday, August 1 from 6pm-8pm with recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7pm at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home, Killeen, Texas.
