David Edward Tookes, affectionally known to those who loved him as “Dave” was born on 14 May 1962 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Bobby Edward and Louise Calhoun Tookes. Dave was the second oldest child of six children.

Associates of Science in Management from Hawaii Pacific University
Bachelor Of Science in Business Administration from Hawaii University
Master of Management from University of Phoenix
Navy: Joined 1981-2004 Dave awards included Navy & Marine Corps achievement medal (6), Navy Unit Commendation (3), Meritorious unit commendation (2) Navy “E” Ribbon Good Conduct Medal (6), National Defense service metal (2), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Southwest Asia Service Medal; Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (4), Navy & Marine Corps Overseas Ribbon (2), and the Military Outstanding Awards. He honorably retired from Navy in 2004
Federal Job: Post Office 2008 – 2018 David worked in several positions in the Post Office, but by far the mail route was his favorite, simply because he had a love for people, and they obviously had a love for him. During any giving holiday the people he served showed their appreciation for him by showering him with gifts, cards, and plenty of hugs. He retired from the Post Office in 2018.
Dave, and wife of 25 years Asako Sugai Tookes (A-Town), and son Devonte Kyle Tookes (Dey-Dey) moved to Killeen Texas in 2018, where he enjoyed retirement life. David love for people was seen in so many ways. Every neighbor in his neighborhood speaks of love of Dave, whether it was taking their child to school, and ensuring they got home safely, watching your home while you are away, or taking care of a sick neighbor that was dying from cancer through some of their toughest days, until the day that neighbor went home to glory. David heart was so big for those that was less fortunate than him, he donated to several children foundation around the world. He also gave back to his community by donating plasma several times a month, and he would look for any church whether he was a member or not just to make sure his tithes were paid. David enjoyed spending time with A-Town and Dey-Dey. Whether it was taking his wife and son on a weekend trip, or a long ride to surprise parents and siblings who had not seen him in a long time, or a day adventure of a new discovery, or dropping by family just to watch some of his favorite shows, or have a great debate, and oh a debater he was. Dave’s most enjoyable activities were reading, playing games such as sudoku, pool, fishing, and watching Tik-Tok on his phone, he was also an avid chess player, he even played in some tournaments. During the last year David began to read his Bible daily where he began to draw closer to God and was happy to lift your spirits with an encouraging word.
On 01 January 2024 David joined his sister Collette Tookes and many relatives and friends who are resting in peace until Jesus returns and received them in heaven.
Having fought a good fight, his memory will be cherished by his loving and devoted wife, Asako Sugai Tookes; Father and Mother Bobby E. and Louise C. Tookes of Atlanta Georgia; his loving children, Devonte Kyle Tookes; David Edward Tookes, Jr. and daughter Evelyn-Louise Christina Tookes; sisters Yolanda V. Tookes and Tracey Mayhan; brothers Garey D. Tookes, Sidney D. Tookes; and brother-in-law, Fredrick L. Mayhan; sister-in-law, Tamiko Sugai, and Father and Mother in-laws Minoru and Chieko Sugai. He also leaves his favorite Aunt Lucy Mae, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, extended family, and friends.
