Jeffey David Huff, age 88, of Killeen, TX passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2023. He was born on September 21, 1935 in Temple, TX to Owen Stracener and Margaret Black née Myrick. David attended Temple High School and graduated in 1953. He obtained a Bachelor’s of Arts in History from Bethany College in Bethany, OK. After college, David joined the Air Force and worked in logistics. David began his career as an educator by teaching history for San Antonio ISD and later completed his Master’s in Psychology from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX. David worked for over three decades as a counselor and later special education diagnostician for Killeen ISD.
David married Eva Cope after college, and had a daughter, Linda Estrella Huff. David, his mother, and his grandmother cared for Eva for many years following a traumatic automobile accident. David married Eileen Croom on June 20, 1975 and had their only child, David Logan Huff, on May 23, 1976.
David was a musician who studied piano at an early age, played trombone in high school, and even taught himself to play the flute later in life. David’s love of song and singing in choirs or solo throughout his life was his primary expression of music.
David was a deeply devout man who dedicated his life to studying theology and serving others by leading several Bible study and Sunday school groups over many decades. His musicianship also played into his service through his years of leading hymns in church and working with choirs.
David was a voracious reader whose personal library contained many books, spanning from studies of historical sites, to novels by Thomas Hardy, to The Hardy Boys books, and instruction manuals for learning to read Greek.
David loved to travel, and he, Eileen, and David Logan took many trips during school breaks to explore historical sites of the southwestern United States, especially the Four Corners.
David was preceded in death by his grandparents Nora Boyles and Henry Huff, father Owen Stracener, daughter Linda Estrella Huff, mother Margaret Black, brother Logan Huff, sister Peggy Knight, first wife Eva Huff, and second wife Eileen Huff. He is survived by his sisters Harriet Jones and June Knight, and his son David Huff.
