He graduated from E.A. Kemp High School in Bryan Texas. After graduation Curtis joined the military where he had a long and successful career until retiring in May of 1984. He fought for his country in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Bronze Star for valor and the Purple Heart. He forged many lifelong friendships throughout his military career. Curtis loved serving his country and was proud to wear his uniform and all that it represents.
Curtis married his first wife, Margaret Holland Miles who preceded him in death. Curtis leaves to morn two children, Raymond Holland (wife Sharon) of San Antonio, Texas and Sarah Miles-Barnes of Bryan Texas.
During his military career a roommate of Curtis’ (Herman James) introduced him to a young lady he knew named Ruby Queen. Curtis and Ruby hit it off and were later married, there were no children born to this union; however Curtis still showed a great deal of love for his family. Curtis exercised his brotherly love for his sister-in-law, (Margaret James) by caring for and even sacrificing precious time with Ruby as they cared for their nieces; Dion Bradford and Tanisha Dunn (husband Tommy) of Virginia, and Michelle Haynes and Carla James Ottati (husband David) of Round Rock, Texas.
Curtis was preceded in death by his sister, Eleanor Rushing, and sadly his last surviving sister, Elvora McCurty of San Antonio Texas
succumbed to illness just two days after his passing.
Along with his two children; he is survived by ten grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
