Cleo W. Bay, Sr. was born in Tama Community on the Cowhouse Creek in Coryell County. His parents were Arthur and Laura Marshall Bay. He grew up in the Killeen area and was very much a country boy at heart. He graduated from Killeen High School in 1939, then attended John Tarleton Community College. When World War II broke out, he enlisted in the army in February 1942. Cleo was stationed at Camp Adair in Oregon. During that time, he met and married the love of his life, Glennys Baker on June 4, 1944. Theirs was a whirlwind romance that lasted 72 years. His decorations and citations awarded: Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with 5 Bronze Stars for campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was
honorably discharged in March, 1946.
Cleo was actively involved in the community. He was in many organizations including being a founding member of the Killeen Rotary Club and Exchange Club. He also served on the Central Texas College Board of Trustees and Killeen ISD School Board.
Cleo is preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Teresa Bay Young, his brother, Benny Bay, and his sisters,Margurea Shepard Burns and Treva Brown.
Cleo is survived by his wife, his sons and daughters in law, David and Lynn Bay, and Cleo Jr. and Shirley Bay and his son in law, Dick Young. His grandchildren are Alex Bay, Jarrod and Tasha Young, Amy Bay and Alayna and Carl White. His great- grandchildren are Jaydyn Lightfoot, Riley Young, Amber Young and Zoey White. He is also survived by his brother and sister in law Curtis and Margaret Bay, his sister and brother in law, Laura and Bill Sinclair and his sister in law, Caroline Bay. And many nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 pm Thursday at Crawford-Bower Funeral Home in Killeen.
The service will be 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Killeen. Burial to follow at
Killeen City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Central Texas College Foundation.
